The Complete Table: Coming Up Roses

Coming Up Roses

The chintz pattern first arrived in Europe from India in the early 17th century in the form of brightly printed calico fabric with vibrant floral and bird motifs.

The well-spaced imagery and the ample size of the eponymous flower depicted on Johnson Brothers Rose Chintz reflects the early attempts of pottery manufacturers to duplicate the design.

  1. Love this pattern! I bought a set for twelve in 1989-90. I still have it and use it everyday. If I want to dress it up, I just use my silver flatware and some pink hobmail goblets. Such a lovely look!
