An hour’s drive from Nantes, the medieval city of Guérande is filled with winding streets that are lined with stone houses made colorful with vibrant flower gardens. Sightseers find treasures in galleries and boutiques, and lucky Saturday visitors take advantage of the outdoor market to stock up on salt from the nearby marshes, local produce, fragrant cheeses, and fresh flowers.
Tea lovers are drawn to the Salon Céladon across from the Collégiale Saint-Aubin, a magnificent church in the center of town. Husband-wife team Pascal and Agnès welcome customers to this refined and cozy restaurant, salon de thé, and boutique. On beautiful days, the terrace and back garden also provide ample seating. The lunch menu includes reinvented French classics such as croque-monsieurs and copious salads, as well as daily specials. In addition to a wide variety of excellent hot teas, the salon creates its own iced teas, which pair splendidly with a light lunch. At teatime, Salon Céladon offers delicate homemade pastries, artfully displayed in the dining room. The Breton butter cake (kouign amann) is not to be missed!
