Customers have also provided support to the owner in trying times, such as when she was battling bladder cancer in summer 2015. “The hundreds and hundreds of cards and calls from my customers was unreal,” she shares. “I have a phenomenal staff that kept things running when I was down with [cancer].”

Her health and a desire to be closer to her family are two of the things driving her to sell the tearoom. “It’s time for me to stop because it’s very difficult for me to keep going with all the cooking and cleaning and the decorations and everything that I do. It’s a lot.”

Since she isn’t relying on a real-estate agent to sell the tearoom, she is depending on her customers to get the word out. But until she finds that perfect person to take over her business, she will continue to wear the three hats of owner, host, and cook. “Everybody says I’ve got to just walk away from it. I just can’t. It’s my baby. It’s been my baby for 17 years.”
