Rita Miller Dorris, owner of Rent My Dust in the greater Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas area, has collected antiques of all kinds with her husband, Jay, for more than 40 years. Forever fascinated by the history of heirlooms, Rita discovered her passion for vintage décor at a young age.

“I naturally gravitate toward old things, because I love learning about their origins,” Rita remarks. “I was adopted, and I used to look into the crowd thinking, ‘Could that person be related to me?’ I was in search of my own history, and my love for discovering the history of other things blossomed from there.”

In 2009, when Rita’s daughter got married, the wedding photographer visited their house and noticed the large number of vintage radios scattered throughout the home. She suggested that the family rent out the unusual radios to photographers for photoshoots, because there is a high demand for rare items like such. After much pondering about the idea and the possibilities of turning her longtime hobby into a business, Rita decided it was the perfect endeavor and launched Rent My Dust in 2011.

The business is a one-stop shop for vintage prop rentals, and the first of its type in the area. From elegant French tables, brass candelabras, retro radios, and a wide array of colorful linens to mismatched china, silver teapots, and more, the opportunity to add a thoughtful touch of old-fashioned charm to your event is seemingly endless. The treasured items in the company’s collection are carefully chosen from frequent visits to local estate sales, antiques stores, and thrift stores. With a unique inventory unlike any other, any special event that utilizes Rent My Dust’s items is almost guaranteed to invoke “oohs” and “aahs” from excited guests.

“Most vintage companies have become more modern, but we only offer vintage items, because that’s all we know,” Rita notes. “What I love most about every wedding that we provide china for, is there’s always someone that enthusiastically says, ‘My mother or my grandmother had this pattern!’ It floods back countless memories for the guests of those who rent them, and it provides a topic of conversation for both people who know each other and new friends.”
