Scones to Your Home

Though some may claim that scones are dry and brittle, several prominent visionaries across the United States are working hard to break the stigma of the afternoon-tea staple. For “nonbelievers,” appealing flavors, such as Rosemary and Pear, Matcha White Chocolate, Crème Brûlée, Lemon Lavender, and Fig and Goat Cheese, might entice one’s palette and curiosity when only previously accustomed to a basic scone. A myriad of sweet and savory flavor profiles, including vegan and gluten-free options, are available, with some brands offering more than 130 different varieties that fluctuate seasonally. Jelly-filled scones, a creative take on the well-liked type of donut, have even entered the culinary scene after Kei Okumura of Sugarbird Sweets & Teas introduced them on the popular Hulu original show Baker’s Dozen. And, if that’s not enough to win over the scone skeptics, a healthy dollop of indulgent clotted cream, the ultimate scone enhancer, and a layer of a delectable fruity jam are sure to seal the deal. “As God intended, scones should be enjoyed with condiments,” chuckles Tina Jesson of Tina’s Traditional. “No self-respecting scone should be consumed without clotted cream and jam.”

In 2022, mercifully, scrumptious scones are no longer reserved exclusively for trips to the United Kingdom or your tearoom of choice. To every teatime lover’s delight, a beautiful box of toothsome treats awaits with an effortless click of a button and a shuffle to your front door.
