Taking Tea at the Baccarat Hotel New York

The Tsar Nicholas II service is a lavish four-course tea accompanied with champagne and caviar.

In keeping with Baccarat’s tradition of storytelling, Gabrielle ensured the teas served at the hotel come from a company with an equally unique history by forming a partnership with the French gourmet tea company Mariage Frères. Started by two brothers in Paris in 1854, Mariage Frères played a key role in developing the French art of tea.

According to Gabrielle, while guests have a wonderful variety of quality teas and blends from which to choose, the Baccarat blend Mélange Rouge is by far the most popular. Selected for its bright red hue—fitting, as Baccarat’s color is rouge—this tailor-made blend is a caffeine-free rooibos with hints of vanilla, caramel, honey, red apple, and citrus.

Guests with an affinity for tea may also enjoy the seasonal handcrafted tea-infused cocktails or “mocktails” on the menu. “I basically want to infiltrate the entire hotel with tea,” Gabrielle remarks. “I just want people to realize that there is so much you can do with [tea].”

Afternoon tea is served in the hotel salon Wednesday through Sunday from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Reservations are required at least 24 hours in advance and can be made by calling 212-790-8867 or by visiting baccarathotels.com
