While the small, minimalist storefront for Firepot Nomadic Teas has only been in its current location since April 2018, Sarah Scarborough has been sharing her passion for tea for almost 20 years. The brand was conceived in 2001 while Sarah worked at the Tibetan Trader and Teahouse in Bozeman, Montana. Her already piqued interest in agriculture and fair trade led her to start an online business selling loose-leaf chai blends and other teas. Over the next few years, Sarah helped start numerous tea companies in the U.S. and New Zealand, and her work gave her the opportunity to travel and live in different countries, all of which cultivated her knowledge of tea.

In 2012, after moving back to her hometown of Nashville and giving birth to her first child, Sarah discovered she had some spare time to fill. She found a small retail space in the evolving 12 South neighborhood and decided she wanted to use the space to someday open a tea bar. And while the tea bar didn’t become a reality for another five years, Sarah made sure to utilize the locale for brewing and crafting the chai and different teas she sells today.

“From the beginning, the mission of Firepot was to connect tea lovers and tea growers to improve the lives of both,” she says. “And we’ve been able to do that in many ways, with ethical and organic sourcing and donating a portion of our profits to Women in Wildlife.”

The interior décor of the tea bar reflects the souks of Morocco, where Sarah leads an annual yoga retreat, and its clean, neutral aesthetic offers a calm and relaxing location for customers to enjoy their beverages. Along with its regular selection of teas, Firepot also offers a Masters & Pioneers line. “I love this line because it offers something for those interested in the next level of tea. It’s fresh and seasonal, more curated for tea connoisseurs,” she explains. While chai is Firepot’s signature drink, guests can also order one of the brand’s several other teas or specialty tea-infused drinks. Loose-leaf teas and blends are also available for purchase, along with sundry tea wares and home décor. “We wanted the space to be raw and organic,” Sarah notes. “Everything sold is handmade. Everything has a soul.”

The tea bar is open from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday. The shop also offers tea classes and tastings from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., every Monday and Thursday. Firepot Nomadic Teas are sold in several stores in Nashville and a number of stores throughout the United States, as well as online, with one percent of sales going to 1% for the Planet.
