A few miles from the expansive Everglades National Park, a hidden treasure for tea enthusiasts can be found in an unassuming storefront in Sunrise, Florida. Inside the converted store that accommodates Tea Time Parlor, a vibrant shop stocked with teapots, cups, and saucers and other accoutrements awaits visitors. In the adjoining room, the tearoom sets a jovial atmosphere with tables adorned in colorful linens and fine china and chairs embellished with scarves, beads, and hats for diners to don.

“Our family loves hosting special events,” owner Monica Cohen says. “We have been able to share our love of tea with others by serving guests at baby and bridal showers, birthday parties, and other events.”

Patrons have a choice between two different tea services. The Southern Lady option, which costs $23 per person, includes two buttermilk scones with lemon curd and house-made clotted cream, five different finger sandwiches, seasonal fruit, five mini desserts, and a tea of choice. The heartier Victorian service, at $28 per person, features the same menu along with a slice of quiche and the customer’s choice of soup or salad. Monica says the tearoom is able to accommodate those with dietary restrictions if the staff is informed when making a reservation.

In addition to the several teas available, Tea Time Parlor has its own house blend called Blue Heaven, which is a black tea with strawberry, kiwi, and coconut crème. All teas served are also available for guests to purchase in the shop or online.

“Our guests appreciate our made-from-scratch scones and quiche,” Monica notes. “Our décor provides a great atmosphere, and our gift shop meets all needs. But our friendly staff, such as Lia Nelson [pictured far left], is key. They always ensure you a social media–ready picture, whether on our Victorian couch or at the tables with our scarves and hats.”

Tea Time Parlor is open 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday. Reservations for afternoon tea are not required but are highly recommended.
