The name Biltmore is virtually synonymous with sophistication and luxury. A national historic landmark, The Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables maintains that ambiance in a spectacular structure in the Mediterranean Revival style, uniquely combining Spanish, Moorish, and Italian architectural influences. Since 1926—excluding an almost 10-year-period when the building remained unoccupied— the 271-room resort has boasted a number of amenities for its guests, but one that can be enjoyed whether or not you are staying at the hotel is the time-honored tradition of afternoon tea.

Served beneath the vaulted ceiling in the unique architecture of the hotel’s picturesque lobby with the subtle and soothing sound of a harp in the background, afternoon tea at The Biltmore offers a rotating menu with fare to fit the season. The meal starts with the loose-leaf tea of the guests’ choice, with each person receiving an individual teapot. While the tea list features fewer than 20 teas and tisanes, diners will find it easy to make a selection, as tea attendants are trained to know each blend and can make expert recommendations upon request. Once chosen, each tea is poured into the teacups through silver strainers, a subtle nod the teatime traditions of the past. While sipping their infusions, customers will enjoy an assortment of seasonally inspired savories, scones with clotted cream and preserves, and artfully crafted petits fours and sweets presented to the table on a tiered tray. Committed to offering a wide range of food options, The Biltmore can meet the needs of those with food sensitivities and dietary restrictions if mentioned when making a reservation.

For special occasions or celebrations, a glass of Champagne or sparkling wine can be added to the tea service at an additional fee. Afternoon tea at The Biltmore, which costs $45 per person, is offered Thursday through Sunday with seatings at 2:00, 2:30, and 3:00 p.m. Reservations are required and can be made up to 24 hours prior to the guest’s seating time.
