Pet-friendly Hotel deLuxe in downtown Portland pays homage to Hollywood’s Golden Age of the early 20th century. Afternoon tea is served Thursday through Sunday in Gracie’s restaurant where gleaming marble-top tables dot the room. Guests can choose from among two custom tea blends—Green Deluxe (a combination of green teas from China and Japan) and Provenance Black (black tea scented with jasmine and black currants)—as well as seven other popular classics by Smith Teamaker, all of which are presented in shiny, personal-size pots. If desired, a glass of bubbly or a tea-infused cocktail made with offerings from local Townshend Teas are available for an additional charge.

Presented on a tri-level stand, a quintet of finger sandwiches (usually smoked salmon, ham, cucumber, chicken salad, and roasted vegetable cream cheese) fills the bottom tier. The large, freshly baked scones (plain and orange-currant) that occupy the middle section are best enjoyed with lashings of clotted cream and house-made jams in seasonal flavors, while a marvelous daily assortment of pastries and other sweets crowns the stand’s top layer. Special dietary needs, such as gluten-free, can be accommodated if mentioned when booking. Canines and felines can partake of afternoon tea by reservation, too, in the hotel lobby when their human companions do and are sure to enjoy TeaPet Salon herbal infusions, as well as treats baked on-site especially for them.
