Kenyan Purple
James Norwood Pratt, America’s tea sage, has noted the growing interest in tea from the reddish-purple leaf of a cultivar from Kenya. Purple tea contains the same antioxidants as blueberries, which contribute to its popularity for its health benefits. It is those same healthful polyphenols, however, that give this tea, which is often manufactured using the same methods as green tea, a slight bitterness when steeped.
