The Grand Del Mar, approximately 25 minutes from San Diego’s airport, can only be described as a stunning Mediterranean-inspired resort with grand dining (it has Southern California’s only Five-Star and Five Diamond restaurant) and gorgeous grounds. Afternoon tea, offered Friday through Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., is served in the intimate and relaxing wood-paneled Library, nestled right off the Lobby Lounge. Beautifully appointed tables welcome guests, who have a choice of loose-leaf tea or a glass of Champagne with their food. Two types of scones, including a dried-currant variety, follow the tea-sandwich course. The scones are accompanied by Devon cream, lemon curd, and organic raspberry jam. Five petite desserts are the perfect sweet notes on which to end this scrumptious tea. Reservations are necessary, and the resort can also accommodate baby showers and bridal teas.
